We all knew about some pre E3 rumors floating about Sony making their PSN a yearly service. A lot of people were concerned that the Free PSN that Sony has been having since the launch of the PS3 will no longer exists.
During Sony’s E3 Press Conference, it was reveled that there will be in fact a new PlayStation Network service called “PlayStation Plus”. After a week of waiting we are finally reveled some details not to mention when it all starts.
The user has two options when it comes to subscirbing. For $49.99 you’ll get a years subscription and Sony is also offering ”three additional bonus months for free if you purchase the 1-year package”. The second choice is a $17.99 for a 3-month package. All this starts as of June 29th, which is the next PSN update.
During their June 29th launch the users will get “The full PlayStation Network game,WipEout HD, PSP minis and PS One Classics such as Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies and Rally Cross, full game trial of inFAMOUS, as well as free monthly episodes of Qore – our high-definition, interactive gaming lifestyle show.” Here is some small details about the service.
- Free monthly PSN games, minis and PS One Classics from the PSN Store. Sony has not specified what games and how many will be available each month.
- Exclusive dynamic themes, premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons.
- PlayStation Store discounts ranging from 20% to 50% off.
- Select demos and beta trials before they go live to everyone else.
- PlayStation Plus members can also try full game titles before buying them. Each trial will typically last an hour before you must choose to purchase the game. Any progress you made in the trial period, including game saves and trophies earned, will carry over into the full game once purchased.
One thing that should be noted is “If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe, the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them,” Sony says.
Now I for one will try to get a years subscription and try it out because for the $49.99 price tag I think its worth it. The same good old free PSN is still there and this is simply as they call it a plus. I do think that this service if offered more to the hardcore PlayStation crowd who are buying things from PSN a lot, or simply spend most of their gaming time on their PlayStation 3.
